Miles of beautiful beaches on this rare island property

Adventure Travelers Find Answers in Remote Corners of the World

November 29th, 2009 by Frances

I first found the Chicago Adventure Travel Examiner on Twitter as @travelingted. After a while I subscribed to his RSS feed, where I read this:

Bigfoot and Ivory Billed Woodpecker Searches captivate adventure travelers

“Bigfoot and the ivory-billed woodpecker searches captivate adventure travelers. This begs the question why do people adventure travel in the first place? The answer is we are all on a search for something in this life. Some find the answers to that search in shopping in malls, going out to bars with friends, and adventure travelers find the answers in the remote corners of America and the world.

You can read the whole article on his blog here, and you can learn something about Ivory-billed woodpeckers and even Bigfoot if you do. But it’s the quote above that struck a chord with me. There’s something about getting away from it all — whether it’s the top of a Vermont Mountain, or walking through ancient ruins in Thailand, or even staring at Lake Michigan on a Chicago lunch hour. Getting away from it all gets you closer to whatever it is you’re looking for.

My work on Isla Palenque, one of the most remote and beautiful spots in the world, has taken me to the island several times now. I’d never before had the experience of snorkeling in a warm sapphire sea with NO ONE ELSE AROUND. It’s awesome. It’s humbling. It’s completely enchanting and moving. I thought of that when I read that blog today. I think of it often.

So, get out there and find a little piece of whatever it is that makes you happy. Adventure on!
